It all started with one Episode of the Famous show “Ripley’s Believe it or not ”….
There was a Middle aged Fat man ….He seemed a normal guy……..He Ate, Drunk and Slept normal……..He even Dreamt….But this aspect of his life (Sleep actually) was not normal…..He used to have Weird Nightmares ….and to add to the Weirdness quotient…his dreams Started Coming true…. and it was not limited to just his own life …His dreams were taking meaning in the real world with Strangers too ….Gosh !!! It was a Spooky story… and as I said ….I was a Kid then …I believed it with Awe on my face (Just like the Woohoohoohoohoo guy in the New Intel Processors’ Ad )….
I just Believed the Story without any questions … Was in deep thought throughout that day about the Luckiness of that man to See his Dreams/Nightmares come true in the Lives of other people…Wow what a Luxury …He’d dream Good OR dream S**t…but it would have never given him a damn…..Being a Kid then I had just watched the Visuals of that Story not Giving a Damn to the Depressed look on that guys face (He looked like One of the Characters from “Hangover”) …It was gr8 thing to Keep me Excited for the next few days…and I didn’t leave any stone unturned when I Dramatised and Recited the story to my Even-more-awe-stricken mates…..But this Bubbliness just lasted for a few days….. 'cause I , in my childish carelessness forgot the Whole deal about this Story …….
Years passed by…I had become what humans call Grown Up... TV was an integral part of my life …but more so Sports Channels (Was a Grown Up after all)….I had at last lived up to my bill as a Rational Animal…..Ignoring all the Weird n Whacky shows on AXN ad a few other channels….They were categorised in my mind as Unconventional Stations ….n I would only fall upon them if all the Sports channel would be running Boring “Classic” cricket innings of years gone by and the likes….
A lot had changed on TV in the years gone by ….There Were about 20 new News Channels (I would categorise the Hindi news Channels in My “Comedy” Section. Read . "India TV ")…Countless Music Channels (repeating the Same songs Every 2 hours) …and the “Reality” bug had Bitten into Man’s Skin (actually the bug had Cancerously reached the head of the Common man) …. Every single Channel had changed its Outlook and Format …..TV viewing was now worth an Experience ..infact , a Joyride ….
But peculiarly One thing remained the Same ….it was AXN and its few Trademark shows…..Just to Inform you that “Ripley’s Believe it or Not” was still a Hit (Atleast for the People who had suddenly started believing in the Mayan Calendar …and its Tales) ….. and coincidentally I had to See it that day ..(Blame it on the Boring Cricket Classics)... there were some gory stories going on when a thought Suddenly struck my mind with a THUD!!….I just happened to remember that particular episode from the past of that same show …Yes !! its was that very Show where I had seen the clip about that Fat (Sorrowful) man’s Nightmares …and that too True Nightmares …I remember being Awed by the Incidents in that clip when I was small (and was not proficient enough in the Universal language “English”)……But now I was big enough….was Already a creature with a Carbon footprint of about 2 Decades…and I just knew exactly what that phenomenon which that Pitiful man experienced was called ….. PREMONITION !!!
Aha !!! I felt as if I’d cracked the Da Vinci Code (Gosh !! Can’t evn in my Dreams think about Cracking IIT !!!)
So what’s this PREMONITION ????
à The only answer I’ve got from outsiders is that it’s a Movie aired almost every Month
...And I also thought …its such an interesting topic with vast possibilities …how can it be explained in a matter of 2 hours in a movie ??? Or even how can it be Explained in a Blog ?????
But hold on !!! I'm writing it for another reason..(And that does not include Bugging you)
Just two years back I read an Article on Premonition in a newspaper supplement….The article was informative but not Stingy…But it had enough Spark in it to catch my imagination….The article had a few instances of peoples Premonitions….and reading those made me think …(Yes…sometimes I do think …)
HAS IS EVER HAPPENED TO ME ????
So without thinking I conducted a flashback of my life…especially a Flashback of my Dreams….a tough thing ...(But I imagined myself being told by ACP Pradyuman “PB ...apne diamaag ko jor Do…[fingers flicking]..kya pata Khuni ka pata Dimaag mein hi mil jaaye !!!”…Oh Shut Up !!!)
I Stopped at a few Nightmares that I have very often….Like the nightmare in which In would be Racing my cycle in my Backyard and would end up banging a Wall 'cause of brake failure…
OR the one ..where I fall from a cliff…the cliff being my building…
OR the one where I’m the passenger in the car with no Driver…n the car is moving n steering being steered Aimlessly by some invisible person…
OR the one where I’m taking a walk in a lonely place n end up facing a Tiger…
…the list goes on n on…I’ve actually had too many useless nightmares…
So I inferred….A few of the above could have taken shape into reality…but I don’t think I would have opted for them (viz. I don’t ride a cycle now…Tiger population is decreasing…n I’m not depressed enough to jump off a cliff :P )
I had not finished scanning all of my past Dreams for some Clue …I had pressed the “Pause” button and Switched the “Thinking mode” of my mind ON (Yeah !! I have that mode !!)
I thought….that is this Premonition a fictional or real phenomenon ???
If Yes , then why does it happen ?? What is the Reason behind it ??
(OK…I asked these questions..but to whom ???
I knew ..I was a No pointer in terms of Knowledge.. but I actually ended up getting an answer..and it was again my Alter ego ….Oh!! I’d forgtten that he was the one who had prompted me into this S*** !! )
My alter ego said to me,”Look PB..Premonition is what I’d describe as one of the Beauties of Human Life…See we humans have not been rewarded with the Sixth Sense by default…But there are some Human minds which I guess have a bit of that (Animal Instinct) ….Premonition can actually also be termed as simple coincidence …..but it has not been proved yet why there have been so many Coincidental happenings related to Dreams i.e. Premonitions.…
So.. we must just live by the fact that those people are really lucky…’cause at some point of time in life ,they have at least seen the FUTURE (and I’m not talking about Nicolas Cage in the movie ‘Next’…it was just a Movie after all !!) ..So keep recounting your dreams…who knows You may stumble upon a Premonition !!! ”
And he(Alter Ego) went Quiet before I could ask him another 100 questions (Readers must thank my ALter Ego for shutting up …otherwise you’ll would have jumped off a Cliff frustrated by my Boring Questions …. )
So I again pressed the “Resume” button in my mind …and went into dreamy recollections ….There were a few more silly Dreams …a few Scary…a Few funny…a few I-wish-it-were-true ones [If You Know What I Mean]….a few Nostalgic ….n a few Incomplete …
Yes Incomplete…this section seemed Suspicious ….I marked it for Review in future….
Now I was damn tired…and dozed off ..(all these things were actually being done in sleep... in real life I’m too lazy to even think!!!….and yes ,my Alter Ego loves to Appear out of the blue at night…and loves to break my Dreams with bugging ideas !!! )
Got up the next morning having No Clue what I had thought or Dreamt last night …and many such Clueless days passed by(and this was a dream I’d seen 2 years before today)….In the Vigours of boring college life I’d even forgotten how to dream…I was actually sleeping blank (No dreams…no excitement)….
Then this year's vacations started…was relieved of tensions…and thus resumed Dreaming…now things felt Normal…I also remembered my Alter Ego's conversation with me about Premonition…but was fatigued to scan more Dreams….
again there was a period of non-happening days in terms of Dreams….
Then suddenly a few Days ago I read on my faceb*** page about the DEATH of the Bassist of one of my favourite bands at an early age…..I was shocked….felt very bad whenever I heard that band’s songs post that day ….felt a bit bad about everything that day...don't know why ...
But just Yesterday I realised something …the Word DEATH just lighted a Matchstick in the Memory section of my Brain ....
…Suddenly...Anxiety creeped upon me….Sadness Capsized my mind… Guilt poured in like a Liquid …Sweat was released in abundance as though for Sale….World seemed Inverted…Mind went blank for a while…
What happened ????
What was it ????
What was the Realisation ????
Why this Anxiety ??
…Actually I just remembered a thing….in fact I remembered a Dream….and sadly it was a PREMONITION …..
They say you may like to see the FUTURE …..but I’d opt otherwise ….
Life may be beautiful…but an experience as Spooky as Premonition (In my Case) may even Blow you Off ……
